Long-Term Living editors are finalists for top journalism honor

An editorial package by the editors of Long-Term Living has earned them places as finalists for a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award, which has been called the Pulitzer Prize of business-to-business journalism. Winners will be announced at a March 14 event in New York City.

The Vendome Group media brand editors' entry, in the Best Subject-Related Package category, includes articles, a photo gallery, videos, podcasts, a Q&A and a blog, all detailing how one senior care network—Eliza Jennings in Northeast Ohio—tested and implemented the first U.S. pilot of a Japanese program that reduces or reverses the effects of dementia. The Eliza Jennings effort, which received Long-Term Living's 2013 OPTIMA Award, led to the SAIDO Learning program being made available to other senior living communities across the country.

"The program's potential to reduce care needs and care costs could take on increased importance in the United States as the incidence of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia increases with the aging population," the Long-Term Living editors noted in their entry. Contributing to the editorial package were Editor-in-Chief Pamela Tabar, Senior Editor Lois A. Bowers and Managing Editor Sandra Hoban.

The Neal Awards are sponsored by American Business Media (ABM), an association of business information providers. The competition was established in 1955 to recognize editorial excellence by business media brand editors and is named in honor of ABM's first managing director. Awards presented in 2014 recognize work published between Dec. 1, 2012, and Nov. 30, 2013.

The Long-Term Living editors' entry is one of 173 finalists chosen from a field of 612 original submissions. Ultimately, 45 winners will be named in 21 categories.
